Brilliant Duke of Edinburgh achievements
Eighteen students from the ARK William Parker Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Group achieved their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award at the area presentation awards evening held at Bexhill High School.
The evening consisted of students talking about their most memorable moments whilst doing the DofE, and many photos and videos were shown, to give parents an insight as to what the students get up to on a DofE Expedition; it soon became clear why they came back so muddy or wet!
All of the participants were required to complete activity programmes in the following 4 areas… volunteering, physical, skill and expedition. The students have particularly excelled and impressed the leaders in the volunteer section where they have given up their time for the local community, supporting many organisations such as Mencap, YMCA, charity shops, care homes, Scout Association, Girl Guiding UK and local primary schools. They have shown extreme maturity and commitment and are a credit to ARK William Parker Academy.
Miss Jo Hart, DofE co-ordinator and leader at ARK William Parker, said “Throughout their time on the DofE programme, many of the students have developed and grown into mature, confident young people and have been a pleasure to work with; they can now proudly show their award to prospective colleges, universities and employers and stand out from the crowd. I have no doubt they will all go on to succeed in whatever they do, especially if they show the same dedication and ambition they have shown whilst completing the award.”
“Well done to each and every one of you… George Backhouse, Abraiz Hammad, Indy Marcroft, Daniel Sweetman, Luke Whiffen-Brown, Dylan Buckingham, Andrew Holland, Harry Keeble, Charlie Miller, Joshua Reed, Greg Tadman, James Whiffen-Brown, Cameron Doyle, Jake Jameson, Chris Leech, Nathaniel Osborne, Shellesse Shields, Callum Thorpe… You are fantastic, a credit to the academy and the local community with your volunteering efforts and commitment to each of your DofE sections.”
“I love being a DofE Leader and I am so proud to have worked with so many participants over the past 4 years – especially taking them on the expeditions and seeing them develop and grow into mature, confident young people. My job is more rewarding because of them!”
“I want to say thank you to all the organisations who have allowed them to volunteer, all the assessors who have signed their books, all the staff or teachers who have joined in and helped along the way, and to all the parents who have transported them to and from expedition training; you have given up your time so freely to assist these young people in striving to be better, standing out among the crowd and aiming for the top!”
