Pedalling their way to healthy eating!
ARK William Parker Academy promotes a fun way of healthy eating using Smoothie Bikes.
The catering team joined forces with the business, catering, design and technology departments and gave students the opportunity to learn how to make smoothies in an unconventional way. Students tested their ‘Pedal power’ and raced against each other, on two custom made Smoothie Bikes, amidst excited calls of ‘faster, faster’ from fellow classmates. Each modified bike has a blender, positioned just behind the saddle, which turned, when the bike was pedalled, to mix up healthy smoothies. The students had a fun-filled time, and at the end of each race everyone enjoyed the fruits of their labour by drinking the delicious, healthy smoothie which they had just blended.
Student, Spead Barlow, said “By drinking smoothies I could increase the amount of fruit I eat. It was exhausting, but great fun!”
Steven Ebsworth also commented “It was hard; it was fun; it was worth it, because it tastes so nice”.
Staff and students at ARK William Parker Academy would like to thank Sainsburys in Hastings, who generously donated all the fruit for the day, for supporting us in the promotion of Healthy Eating across the Academy and for making the event a huge success.
