Perseverance, enthusiasm and great team spirit on show at our sports day

Students from years 7-10 had great fun participating in their annual sports day at our athletics arena. Throughout the day, students enthusiastically competed in their House teams - Becket, Saxon, Saunders and Parker, which was also used as a selection process for the Secondary Town Sports event.

There were excellent performances from athletes who won their events and from others who showed great resilience competing for their houses. The boys received plenty of encouragement and cheers from spectators and fellow team mates.

There were also great signs of the core values of our school, especially perseverance, where some students took part in many events in order to gain valuable points for their team. Students competed in both track and field events with the final event being a relay.

In the Year 7 event, Saunders were the eventual winners with Becket in 2nd place, Saxon in 3rd and Parker in 4th. The Year 8 result was the closest seen in many years with one point separating first and second place; Parker finished 1st with Saunders 2nd, Saxon 3rd and Becket 4th.

Jimmy Elford, Head of PE said, “Sports day was a wonderful event. The boys represented their house with pride and passion in their quest for a place at Town Sports. There were some fantastic performances in 12 different events; students also ran, jumped and threw for valuable house points."

PE Teacher Mr Morris said, “It was a brilliant day where students were able to showcase not only their excellent performances but also their team work and cooperation with each other.”

As a result of this event and trials, both in lessons and after school, the PE department selected students to represent the school at the Secondary Town Sports event.
