Year 9 team win through to District Cup final

The Ark William Parker Year 9A team beat Priory school on 4-3 on penalties to set up a final against Seaford Head on Wednesday 7th March.

A dramatic finish to the match saw Parker win through via the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

In truth Parker didn’t do enough to win the game in normal time and found themselves two goals down before they played with any urgency. The manner in which the boys showed faith and persevered, when the chances of salvaging something from the game, was outstanding. With 7 minutes to play, Captain Benn Ward found a pocket of space inside the Priory defence and finished in assured style. With two minutes left Spencer Winters equalised with a free kick from outside the area, something for which he is becoming known for.

Extra time saw very little goal mouth action with the winner decided by penalties. Harvey Mapstone failed with the first spot kick, the Priory keeper making a good save. Priory scored their first but blazed over their second. Ward scored to make it 1-1 after two penalties each. Cody Craddock saved the last Priory penalty with the score 4-3 to Parker (Winters, Luke Warren and Jamal Lubanga all scored), meaning it was Parker who went through to the District Cup final.

Parker play Seaford Head in the Final which will be played at Hailsham FC on Wednesday 7th March with a 3pm kick off.

Team: Craddock, Legg, Winters, Palmer, Mapstone, Skinner, Luke Warren, Ward, Peacock, Cumber, Lubanga.
