Outward Bound in 'once-in-a-lifetime' Canada trip
Year 11 student Adam Pearson is celebrating after being awarded the opportunity of a lifetime to go on an all-expenses-paid trip to Canada. The 3 week expedition with Outward Bound Canada is sponsored by the Stuart Horne Trust.
Adam, alongside five other Ark students from across the network, will be exposed to Canadian universities, schools and outdoor leadership programs. The programs use the challenges and inspiration of the natural environment - rivers, lakes, mountains and oceans - to bring out the best in everyone. The rewards come from meeting these challenges and accomplishing what was thought to be impossible. The students will learn outdoor survival and adventure skills, hike through mountain ranges, learn to sea kayak and camp. They will also develop longlasting attributes of courage, resilience, responsibility, persistence, integrity, compassion and the ability to work well with others - qualities that will last a lifetime.
The students underwent a rigorous application and interview process, including a phone interview to Canada, displaying their motivation, resilience, open-mindedness and physical fitness at each stage.
Adam said, “I didn’t for one minute think that I would have been chosen; it’s such an amazing opportunity, so when I was picked it felt incredible!”
Head of Year, Deborah Grimmer, said “I am over the moon that Adam has been given the opportunity to participate in this wonderful adventure. He is a very lucky young man. I wish him every happiness as he embarks on such an amazing life changing experience.”
