Bangs, flames and explosions surprise Hastings' Year 6s
New students - New Opportunities - New Experiences at Ark William Parker
Ark William Parker opened its doors for a well-attended and successful Year 6 open evening. The event allowed prospective new students and parents to experience the vast range of activities and opportunities the academy has to offer.
Students were welcomed to the newly designed school reception area where they eagerly accepted goodie bags before going on a tour of the academy site.
Parents and students alike were keen to try their hand at the activities and displays on offer. They took part in various activities ranging from badge making in DT and quizzes in maths to basketball shootouts, table tennis and a rowing challenge within the exceptional sports facilities.
As usual the science department had the students standing in awe - many drawn to the bangs, flames and explosions whilst others were intrigued with the biology dissections; methane bubbles and flames leaving lasting memories. The English department displayed student's work and the library demonstrated literacy skills. The art department captured the imagination of many budding filmmakers with an excellent workshop on animation and the Spanish department teamed up with food technology to offer guests the opportunity to sample the delights of Spanish cuisine; tapas and other traditional delicacies were eagerly enjoyed by all.
Space within the main hall was at a premium for the Executive Principal’s address where guests were introduced to key members of staff who would be integral to the successful transition of new students next year.
With the move from primary to secondary school drawing closer, the event gave Year 6 parents a glimpse of the life their son could have at Ark William Parker Academy. They had the opportunity to ask questions to both staff and students to inform them when making the important decision about their son’s future education.
If you missed the event and wish to visit the academy, please telephone 01424 439888 to arrange a tour where staff will be only too pleased to welcome you.
