Rugby Tournament forges links with Hastings and Bexhill RFC

Ark William Parker Academy welcomed Bexhill Academy and St Leonards Academy to the school when they hosted a successful Year 8 rugby tournament.

Parker Team 2 started off the day with a closely fought battle against Bexhill, with the visitors eventually scoring in the last play to win the game 15-10. The boys recovered to defeat St Leonards Academy (SLA) 15-5 while showing a fantastic mix of powerful running and slick passing.

On the other pitch, Parker Team 1 started off the day with a 15-5 win over SLA and then a closely fought loss to Bexhill in the extreme weather conditions that included hail stones that weren’t expected at this time of year!

Finally, the two Parker teams played each other for second place and it was Team 2 who took the win.

The tournament, which was supported by Hastings and Bexhill RFC, focused on encouraging more boys to play for Hastings and Bexhill outside school. The event was a huge success as lots of boys from all the schools showed great interest and took leaflets home with them.

Coach Jake Stinson said, "It was great seeing so many boys enjoy playing rugby with big smiles on their faces. Both Parker teams were excellent; they represented our academy with pride and enjoyed themselves. Ark William Parker is developing a strong rugby culture and being able to put out two sides that are capable playing some brilliant rugby shows our progression. We hope this event will strengthen the school links with the rugby club and give our boys plenty of opportunity to play."

Coach Rob Martellini said, "The Ark William Parker students showed great attitude and determination in the games and this showed with fantastic results and quality rugby. The ultimate goal was to promote the game and link with our local rugby club. It was great to see so many parents support the players as well as the friendly atmosphere between all 4 teams. We look forward to hosting more tournaments next year in collaboration with Ark William Parker and Hastings and Bexhill RFC."
