Glyndebourne offers a unique operatic experience for our students
On Wednesday 11th October, a selection of our music students from years 8 to 11 joined Ark Helenswood students on a trip to the stunning Glyndebourne Theatre in Lewes. The group which consisted of mostly GCSE music students went to see the live performance of ‘Cosi fan tutte’ by Mozart.
This was an exciting opportunity for the students to experience a live production performed by a full professional cast of singers, actors, musicians and backstage crew and to visit one of the UK’s most prestigious concert halls.
Students experienced the thrill and emotions of a live performance, increasing their cultural knowledge and experience. The opera was sung in Italian with English supertitles which helped them to understand the story.
Year 9 student Jack said “I thought the opera was really good. It was very impressive and the actors really made the characters come to life. My favourite character was Despina because she was sneaky. I would recommend the show to anyone.”
Raghav, Year 8, said “I understood most of the opera as I’m Italian and the singing was in Italian, so I didn’t have to read all the words on the screen.” He continued with a puzzled face “There were some singing bits that were a little difficult to understand and I didn’t quite get the funny bits when everyone else was laughing. I enjoyed the opera especially the parts that had lots of action and things happening on stage.”
Music teacher Ms Barber said “This was a truly amazing cultural event with a stunning performance and stage production in a wonderful venue. Our students behaved impeccably and were a credit to our academy.”
