Year 9 football team through to County Cup final
The Year 9 Ark William Parker football team made it through to the Under 14 Sussex Schools County Cup Final.
The team were determined to win into the final having won the trophy in Year 7. In muddy and heavy conditions Parker played some fantastic passing football, playing out from the back and feeding wingers Jamal Lubanga and Alfie Peacock in dangerous areas behind and down the sides of a resolute Durrington defence. In sport, you often get punished for mistakes, and this was epitomised when Parker allowed a Durrington player a free header from a corner, completely against the run of play. Durrington fortunately took a one goal lead into half time.
In the second half Parker tried to get back into the game but were kept at bay by some good saves. Parker kept persevering and their efforts were rewarded when the excellent Aiden Avery retrieved the ball with his back to goal, span his man and found the bottom corner. This buoyed Parker who then ran through their opponents. Avery then turned provider with another excellent passage of play which resulted in Jamal Palmer scoring from the edge of the box. Great work from Peacock down the right set up the third and final Parker goal with Lubanga scoring from close range at the far post.
The final will be played on Wednesday 9th May at Sussex County Headquarters in Lancing where opponents Cardinal Newman (Brighton) await.
