96th Commemoration Service

We celebrated our 96th annual commemoration in remembrance of our schools founder Rev William Parker, once Rector of All Saints.

The service was held at All Saints in Hastings Old Town and involved Year 7, Year 8 and invited students from other years. The event was attended by Nigel Sinden the Mayor of Hastings, Lesley Hurst from the Diocese of Chichester, Clifford Smith Chair of Governors, Foundation Trustees and staff.

The ceremony began with students carrying the processional cross down the aisle followed by the clergy and the Mayor. The service was led by Rev. Luke Irvine-Capel and Fr. Sean Gilbert and included hymns, prayers and readings. The congregation listened attentively to Deputy Head Boy Riyadh who gave a brief history of the school with a message of caring within our community and a bible reading by Head Boy Milo.

After the service and whilst waiting for transport, students took the opportunity to ask questions about the church and its history and look at artefacts - they were particularly interested in the font!

Governor Clifford Smith said “I enjoyed the service today. I was pleased to see the students participating so enthusiastically to commemorate the foundation of our school. The readers were excellent and the students were well behaved. I would like to thank all those involved, including the William Parker Foundation who supported the service by providing the transport.”

Next year our academy reaches the milestone of 400 years of a school established to educate boys in Hastings through the foundation William Parker established in 1619.
