Students embark on a careers in football course

This month, a group of our students embarked on a course that would help them to learn more about the different jobs and career paths within the game of Football. The course, organised by Mr Morris, the Careers Lead for the school, will involve several visits to different establishments. Students thinking of going into coaching will also complete the Sports Leader Level 1 Award.

Mr Morris said “This course aims to provide students, who have a real interest in football or sport in general, with the opportunity to experience and find out more about careers in this field.” The first of these visits was to the Eastbourne Campus of the University of Brighton where most of the sporting courses are undertaken. Our students received a sports journalism talk, a tour of the campus and taster sessions in Physiotherapy, Physical Education and Sport Science. Rob Harley, from Brighton University, delivered the Sports Science session in the university’s new Strength and Conditioning centre, which has only been open for three months. These sessions enabled the students to see what kind of options there are for them when they leave College.

“Our students will also be visiting the Amex, the home of Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club to gain a further understanding of the types of jobs that exist specifically within a professional football team. The course will culminate in the students receiving a careers interview in order to discuss their options when they leave school and ensure that they are able to discuss a particular area of interest in more detail.”

Student Zack said “I really enjoyed the day as it gave me a better insight into the types of careers that exist within Football and Sport. I found each session really interesting especially the Sports Science one.”

Student Sam said “I found the information that was given to be very useful because I learnt a lot about the careers. Throughout the course I am looking forward to learning more about the different careers within Football and gain some valuable advice.”
